Kirk's Bio

Kirk was raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma and considers Garnett Road Baptist Church his "Home Church". He is a 1972 graduate of East Central High School, Tulsa. In February 1974 he joined the US Army as a Univac Computer Operator and in August 1972 was stationed in Goeppingen, Germany with the First Infantry Division Forward also know as the Big Red One.

In December 1974 Kirk met Janet Thompson, a Protestant Chaplain's Assistant from Davenport, Iowa. They married in July 1975 and had their first son, Matthew, shortly after Janet was discharged from the military in August of 1976. A year later Kirk's family was transfered to Lawton/Ft. Sill, Oklahoma where he served until his discharge in December 1978.

It was while attending Cameron Baptist in Lawton/Ft. Sill, Oklahoma that Kirk started seeking God's next step beyond his military career. In January 1977 he became a part-time youth director serving in two churches in the Tulsa, Oklahoma area; Parkland Baptist and his home church, Garnett Road Baptist. In January 1981 God provided a full-time youth position at First Baptist, Westville, Oklahoma which allowed Kirk and his wife to attend Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma.

In July 1982 Kirk took the position of Minister of Music and Youth at First Baptist, Jay, Oklahoma and served there until September 1985. Janet continued her schooling and received her degree in Office Management from NSU in the spring of 1985.

Kirk and his family then moved back to Lawton/Ft. Sill, Oklahoma to serve as Minister of Music and Youth at Trinity Baptist until moving to First Baptist, Chandler, Oklahoma in June of 1987.

After moving to Chandler, Kirk and his wife had five more children, Joel, Jonathan, Anna, Leah and Sarah. Janet became a stay-at-home mom and has home-schooled all their children. Janet enjoys reading, sewing, cooking and being a grandmother to their three grand-daughters.

Since 1982 Kirk has been a member of The Singing Churchmen of Oklahoma (SCM) which has provided ministry opportunities not only in Oklahoma and other states but other countries around the globe. Kirk has made mission trips with the SCM to Russia, Latvia, Estonia, Australia, Armenia and Israel. It was through this ministry that Kirk saw the need to be active in missions through the local church as well. Kirk enjoys singing at the monthly concerts in churches around Oklahoma.

Kirk enjoys planning mission trips for the church. He has planned several mission trips to Arizona, Illinois, Iowa, Texas and Colorado mostly through our Pott-Lincoln Baptist Associational Mission Partnerships. He also enjoys woodworking and being a grandpa to his three grand-daughters.

Along with being the Minister of Music and Education, Kirk is also responsible for the Children's Ministry and Senior Adult Ministry.
