21st Century Manhood Realities

Feb 08, 2015

Passage:2 Peter 3:16-17

Detail:

21st Century Manhood Realities

2Timothy3:16-17 ESV

(16)  All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,

(17)  that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.

1. Manhood is in a state of confusion today.

(See attachment for contributing factors.)

2. Confused Men Create Problems in Society.

Most of society’s problems rest at the feet of men.

    Pro 29:18 ESV

     (18)  Where there is no prophetic vision the people cast off restraint, but blessed is he who keeps the law.

  • 90% of murders are committed by men
  • 88% of robberies are committed by men
  • 75% of all people arrested are men.

(U. S. Department of Justice, “Crime in the United States” – 2009.)

“ Gender is the single best predictor of criminal behavior: men commit more crime, and women commit less. This distinction holds throughout history, for all societies, for all groups, and for nearly every crime category.”

(“Gender and Crime,” in the Encyclopedia of Crime and Justice -2002)

3. Confused men settle for less in life.

Not knowing better, confused men serve self first and miss out on the good life.

4. Confused men have no vision of manhood to guide them.

Visionless men continue to act like boys.

1Corinthians 13:11 ESV

(11)  When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways.

  • The phenomenon of extended adolescence.

5. The Bible has solutions to all these issues.

A man can be “thoroughly equipped” by the God’s Spirit and the Bible.

2Timothy3:16-17 ESV

(16)  All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,

(17)  that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.

Five Manhood Promises

2. You will develop a new manhood language.
