The Messy Truth About Us

Jul 31, 2016

Preacher: Rick Blackwell

Detail:

THE MESSY TRUTH ABOUT US!

Philippians 1:6 (ESV)
6 And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.

1. When God saved us, he saved a mess.

Romans 3:10-11 (ESV)
10 as it is written: "None is righteous, no, not one;
11 no one understands; no one seeks for God.

Romans 3:23 (ESV)
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

Romans 5:6 (ESV)
6 For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.

On pages 148-149 of Holly Wagner’s book, Find Your Brave: Courage to Stand Strong When the Waves Crash In, she describes this reality with great clarity.

2. Though we are not as big of a mess as we were
when he saved us, we are still messy!

Romans 12:1-2 (ESV)
12:1 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.
2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

(See also 1 John 3:2 below…. “and what we will be has not yet appeared.”

3. On the day of Jesus Christ, we will no longer be
messy at all! We will be just like Him!

1 John 3:2 (ESV)
2 Beloved, we are God's children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is.
